Expanding Frontiers Signs The Washington Compact, Advancing Responsible Commercial Space Operations
This week, Expanding Frontiers took an exciting step forward by signing The Washington Compact on Norms of Behavior for Commercial Space Operations. Put simply, it’s an international agreement that brings together more than 100 organizations, companies, and institutions that all share one goal: making sure the future of space exploration is responsible, sustainable, and inclusive.
Why does this matter? Space is quickly becoming more than just the domain of governments. Private companies, nonprofits, and universities are shaping the way humanity explores beyond Earth. That means we all share a responsibility to do it the right way — with transparency, cooperation, and long-term thinking.
For us at Expanding Frontiers, this moment ties directly to our mission here in South Texas. Through programs like NASA Tech Trek, the Space Entrepreneur Summer Academy (SESA), and by building partnerships with space companies and universities, we’re working to create an ecosystem where innovation thrives — and does so in a way that benefits humanity both on Earth and beyond.
This recognition is also a win for our community. Brownsville and the Rio Grande Valley are becoming more and more central to the global conversation about space. Signing The Compact is one more way we’re making sure that the values of responsibility and inclusion are part of that story.
We’re proud to be part of this coalition and look forward to helping shape the conversations — and actions — that will define how humanity explores the stars.
