Internship Opportunities
Explore Our Internship Programs
At Expanding Frontiers, our internships are more than just work experience—they’re a launchpad for future innovators. We welcome college students and recent graduates eager to contribute to projects that bridge science, technology, and entrepreneurship. You can now get involved through our Internship Program or our Explorer in Residence (EXR) track, depending on your schedule and goals.
Internship Program – Our internships offer a structured role with a regular weekly schedule and clearly defined responsibilities. Interns are compensated for their time while working directly with staff, mentors, and partner companies on active projects in the NewSpace and frontier-tech ecosystem. This path is a good fit for candidates who are ready to take ownership of specific deliverables and commit consistent hours each week.
Explorer in Residence (EXR) – The Explorer in Residence track is a flexible, volunteer-based way to gain meaningful experience without the commitment of a full-time position. This is a volunteer (unpaid) participant role within the Explorers in Residence (EXR) program, designed to provide hands-on, real-world experience. The program is structured to accommodate academic and professional schedules. Explorers support events, outreach, research, and other mission-driven activities while developing practical skills and expanding their professional network. Participants who demonstrate sustained, high-quality contributions may request letters of recommendation or formal documentation of their service to support future academic or career opportunities. Participation in the EXR program may also be listed on résumés, CVs, and professional profiles as documented volunteer experience with Expanding Frontiers.
Opportunities across both paths are available in a variety of fields, including:
Engineering & Space Science: prototype development, applied research, and hands-on experimentation.
Marketing, Media & Communications: content creation, brand strategy, press releases, and social media outreach.
Market Research & Business Development: competitor analysis, customer discovery, and startup support.
Administrative & Legal Support: operations, policy research, and compliance assistance.
Computer Science & Data: software development, analytics, and emerging technologies.
Some opportunities are hosted directly by Expanding Frontiers, while others are offered in partnership with our portfolio companies—giving participants the chance to gain real-world experience in a dynamic startup environment.
