In Memory of David Cheuvront 1958-2025

Dr. Jenet's luctuosum note:

"In Memory of David Cheuvront

It is with deep sorrow and profound gratitude that we share the news of the passing of our dear colleague and friend, Mr. David Cheuvront. David was an extraordinary engineer, a visionary in human spaceflight, and a generous mentor whose legacy reaches across decades of innovation at NASA and throughout the broader space community.

For more than forty years, David helped shape the arc of human space exploration. His engineering leadership contributed directly to the development and testing of the International Space Station, the evolution of next-generation launch capabilities, and mission assurance for programs including the Orion Crew Vehicle. His work strengthened the foundation of what humanity has built in orbit—an outpost that continues to inspire and enable the next generation of explorers.

David was also a forward-looking thinker whose passion for lunar exploration, sustainable space development, and Earth–space integration resulted in groundbreaking concepts such as the Earth-Space Conservation Demonstration Center. He saw clearly the world that could be, and he dedicated his life’s work to helping us move toward it.

At Expanding Frontiers, we had the privilege of knowing a different side of David as well: a mentor, a supporter, and a champion of young people. His enthusiasm for education and his generous support of the Space Settlement Design Tournament played a meaningful role in helping students discover their passion for space, engineering, teamwork, and bold thinking. He believed deeply in empowering the next generation, and his guidance enriched our mission in ways we will always cherish.

We mourn the loss of a remarkable human being, and we are profoundly grateful for the time we were fortunate enough to share with him. David’s impact on Expanding Frontiers—and on all of us who had the honor of working alongside him—will endure.

Our hearts are with his family, friends, and all who were touched by his brilliance, kindness, and unwavering commitment to advancing humanity’s future in space.

Thank you, David, for the inspiration, the friendship, and the legacy you leave behind. You will be greatly missed."
